I preface this post by saying, it wasn’t easy to convince my boyfriend to have a consistent skin care routine. It had to be easy for him to do and he had to see results.
Some tips for convincing him:
Keep It Easy
Focus on creating a simple routine that does not require too many products. Stick with the basics and use two-in-one products where appropriate.
Now when I say two-in-one products, I don’t mean a shampoo that is also a face cleanser. I mean dedicated skin care products that have multiple functions.
For example: a cleanser that is also an exfoliant, like the By Wishtrend Acid-Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser:
This means that the product cleanses the skin while also removing dead skin cells.
If your boyfriend is prone to acne, you may want to choose a cleanser that also has an acne treatment like niacinamide or benzoyl peroxide, like these ones from CeraVe:
Focus on His Skin Type
It is important to consider his skin type and choose a product that he will see results from. If he’s seeing results then he will want to continue to use that product.
Toning is a step that my boyfriend actually enjoys, because he can tell that it benefits his skin. This won’t be right for every guy and I don’t think toning is necessary to focus on, but for my boyfriend with dry/sensitive skin, toner helped hydrate his skin. He could visibly see less dry patches and irritation.
The toner he likes:
If your man has a more oily skin type then he may appreciate the results from a Niacinamide serum (to reduce his oil production) or a lightweight gel moisturizer (that will make his skin appear less oily throughout the day).

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I thought I’d mention a few other products that the man in my life loves to use. These products will make great gifts for the man who is starting to venture into self-care and skin care.
They’ll also make great presents for the man that is new to skin care and more resistant to start a routine.
The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is great for any man experiencing dryness or flaking skin. The best part of this cream is that it’s a large size so you have enough to apply all over the body. My boyfriend uses it on his face and body.
Convincing your man to wear sunscreen will also be a taxing, but rewarding task. Honestly, if you’re not wearing sunscreen then you are inflicting more damage on your skin than your skin care routine can help. Protecting skin from sun damage is the number one way to help with wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, and protect yourself from skin cancer.
